On arrival in Maun, you will be met by our representative and assisted with your check-in onto your scheduled light aircraft to the flagship Belmond Eagle Island Lodge in the Okavango Delta, a stylish sanctuary in the heart of the delta that brings timeless luxury to the Botswana wetlands.
Situated on the island of Xaxaba, this cool retreat, shaded by a canopy of indigenous trees and Ilala Palms, overlooks a surrounding lagoon fed by the tranquil waterways of the Delta. The area offers prolific birdlife and mammal sightings. It is also the site of one of the most romantic bars in the world, the Fish Eagle Bar, as quoted by The New York Times. High-ceilinged tented rooms flood with light; each has a plunge pool and oversized bed with views of the Delta. Get closer to the wildlife of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Other games seen in the area are hyena, hippo and the full range of antelope, large and small, including the red lechwe.
Get closer to the wildlife than ever before on a Khwai Riverwalk with one of the camp’s experienced guides. Embrace the spirit of adventure as you trek through the rugged landscape, spotting animal tracks, curious insects, rare plant life and countless other amazing sights.
Game viewing is at its best in the dry season between July and October and for the keen ornithologist, birding can be very rewarding, especially between November to April. Bird lovers can conceal themselves in the camp’s private hide which enjoys elevated views across the Khwai River and is the perfect spot to observe the region’s rich variety of birds, including malachite kingfishers and open-billed storks.

A cultural visit to the local Khwai village can be arranged. Accompany by your guide and a local villager, take a stroll around the small village and chat with the locals – get a feel for their culture and their way of life.
Star gazing is another activity offered at the camp. Be captivated by the treasures of the boundless night sky. Using a telescope, focus on constellations that northern hemisphere visitors may never have seen before, such as the Southern Cross. You will also discover how Bushmen used the stars to locate the true south.
After a day spent in the savannah, unwind in the tranquil pool or share stories by the fire. For those wishing to enjoy further pampering, the lodge has a ‘Naturally Wild’ gym and spa facility. Guests can enjoy indulgent massages and body wraps in the spa or in the privacy of their tent.
